Fact Check: Video From Pakistan Shared As Muslims Being Assaulted In India

Date:

A video of soldiers thrashing some men is making rounds on social media. It is being claimed that the video is from India, where Muslims are being dragged out of their homes and being beaten up by the Indian Army.

The clip shows men in military uniform whipping and kicking a couple of men as officers stand by giving instructions.

One of the posts on Facebook was shared with a caption,”भारत और पूरी तरह आर एस एस के सूअर का कब्जा हो चुका है मुसलमानों को घर से निकाल कर मारा जा रहा है.”

(Translation: RSS has fully captured India. Muslims are being dragged out of their houses and beaten.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found it to be misleading.

We found that in 2019, some YouTube users had uploaded the video with the claim that this was the Indian Army thrashing Kashmiri Muslims.

Putting the same video on InVid, we found news reports on the incident which was published in 2011.

In 2011, several news websites had used the video, saying this was Pakistani soldiers interrogating members of the ‘Taliban’.

Digging deeper, we found that the video had surfaced on social media in 2009. As per BBC News, ‘Pakistani soldiers were seen apparently abusing Taliban suspects’ in the video.

Therefore, from the above information, it is evident that the viral video has no connection with India and it was brutality by the Pakistani Army against suspected Taliban sympathisers. Hence, the claim attached to the post is false.
