Fact Check: Have Indore, Bhopal & Ujjain Been Sealed To Contain Spread Of COVID-19? Here’s The Truth

In the backdrop of massive surge of coronavirus cases in India, a video of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is being circulated on social media with a claim that the cities of Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain are being completely sealed.

The caption of the Facebook post read: “*मुख्यमंत्री ने इंदौर भोपाल उज्जैन को पूरी तरह सील करने के आदेश दिए* *अब कोई भी इन शहरों में नहीं आ सकेगा ना बाहर जा सकेगा* *अंतिम संस्कार के लिए भी लोग बाहर नहीं जा सकेंगे*”.

(Translation: Chief Minister ordered complete sealing of Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain. Now no one will be able to come to these cities or go out. People will not be able to go out even for performing last rites.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked this post and found the claim to be false and misleading.

When we extracted keyframes from the video and put them through Reverse Image Search, we discovered that the post was published on YouTube on April 9, 2020, by ABP News.

On comparing a snapshot from the ABP News video and the viral video, it becomes clear that the viral video is from 2020.

We found another video by Times Now uploaded on YouTube on April 9, 2020. The title of the video read, “Bhopal, Ujjain & Indore sealed in Madhya Pradesh amid Coronavirus outbreak.”

Further, we ran a keyword search on Google with the same keywords- ‘Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain sealed’, to look for the latest news reports, if any. But, all the reports dated back to 2020.

Thereby, with all the above information, it can be said that Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain have not been sealed and the viral video is OLD.
