As coronavirus cases continue to surge across the nation, cemeteries and burial grounds are running out of space. In this backdrop, a post is being shared on social media sites with a claim that the Rajasthan government has issued a circular making it mandatory to inform the SDM 4 days before a funeral.
A user shared the post with a caption, “राजस्थान सरकार ने एक सर्कुलर जारी कर कहा है कि अंतिम संस्कार के लिए 4 दिन पहले एसडीएम को सुचना देना अनिवार्य है। कोरोना के साथ साथ राजस्थान में पागलपन की लहर भी चल रही है…”
(Translation- The Rajasthan government has issued a circular saying that it is mandatory to inform the SDM 4 days before the funeral. Along with Corona, a wave of madness is also going on in Rajasthan)
The above post can be found here.
NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be false.
Firstly, we noticed ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ written on the top section of the snapshot. Using some keywords, we found the report by Dainik Bhaskar published on April 14, 2021, where the snapshot is taken from.
We read the report carefully and found that no such point is written in the report.
On comparing the report with the viral post, it becomes clear that the point about taking permission from the SDM four days prior to the funeral has been superimposed on the original clipping using digital manipulation tools.
In the original report the point about funerals read, “No more than 20 people will be allowed at the funeral.” (Translated from Hindi)
Further, we looked for media reports to check if the state government has issued any such circular but could not find anything close to it.
In conclusion, upon analysing our findings, it is safe to say that the snapshot of the report has been morphed and is being shared with a false claim.
