Fact Check: This Video Of Man Tossing Money Is Not Related To Coronavirus; Here’s The Truth

Date:

A video of a man throwing away money in New York is going viral on social media with a claim that he is tossing his friend’s money to fulfil his wish that he made before he died of coronavirus.

A user shared the post with a caption, “A man died in New York City, due to corona. He made a will to his friend that all his money to be tossed in middle of street as let people learn that all the money/wealth of the world has no value in comparison to your health.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the claim is misleading.

We ran a Reverse Image Search on the keyframes from the video and found a report by a website, Free Hip Hop News. The headline of the report read, “Celebrity Jeweler Trax, Pays Homage To His Client And Friend Who Passed Away By Throwing Stacks In The Air!”

We looked for Celebrity Jeweler Trax on Google and found that his real name is Maksud Trax Agadjani and he runs a jewellery firm in New York.

With that information, we did another Reverse Image Search using the keywords and found a video on YouTube published by TraxNYC Diamond Jewelry on March 20, 2021. The caption of the video read, ‘Free CASH MONEY For The People in TIME SQUARE ! In Memory of my friend: RIP Joe KUSH’.

The description of the video read, “Lost a great friend, great customer one year ago. RIP @thegod_joekush All I know is he was shot dead somewhere in Detroit, probably over jealousy. He was making good money and was a great dude, now I understand why they say the good die young.”

The description mentions that his friend, Joe Kush, was shot dead and death due to coronavirus is not mentioned anywhere.

With the help of some keywords, we found another video on TheGod Joe Kush‘s YouTube channel in which he can be seen tossing money on the streets of New York along with the diamond merchant.

The above information proves that Agadjani is talking about American rapper Joe Kush.
We tried to find if Kush died of coronavirus but could not find a single report that suggested that the rapper has passed away.
While the rapper has not posted on his social media for a year, there is no confirmation or statement from his management team over his death.

Hence, based on the above information, we can say that the caption of the video is being falsely related to coronavirus.
