NewsMobile Editors’ Special: India’s Surging Coronavirus Numbers, Delhi’s Night Curfew & Latest WHO Guidelines

Date:

With COVID-19 numbers surging to an all time high, many state governments have imposed strict measures like night curfew, curb on movement etc, with immediate effect.

One such order recently came from the Delhi Government, which has imposed its strictest night curfew, which will be applicable from 10 pm to 5 am. The order will be imposed with immediate effect till April 30, 2021. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that Delhi was underway its fourth pandemic wave. However, he ruled out the immediate possibility of a lockdown.

“As per the current situation, we are not considering imposing a lockdown. We are closely monitoring the situation and such a decision will only be taken after due public consultation,” he told reporters in a press conference.

Post a mind boggling 9,000 cases in November 2020, Delhi recorded a high of 3,548 new cases. Apart from Delhi, states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan have also launched night curfews to restrict movement and curb the rising numbers.

NewsMobile Editors’ Analysis is a discussion that aims at breaking down the current situation, the implications, repercussions and future course of action.
Some critical elements that were highlighted:

1) Social distancing and wearing masks has to be reinforced with strict action against those not abiding by the rules.
2) Vaccine roll out should be applicable to all age groups, thereby increasing the scope of coverage against Coronavirus.
3) Fake news about the pandemic should be busted. At NewsMobile, it is our endeavour to bust fake claims and bring verified and true information forward.
