As Tamil Nadu assembly election date nears, social media is flooded with pictures of political rallies and campaigning.
One such post is purportedly of a grand welcome accorded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Tamil Nadu.
“Tamilnadu welcomes Rahul Gandhi,” the post read.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
We put the picture through Reverse Image Search and found a tweet dated March 19, 2021, stating that the pictures are from DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) rally.
“Ground is in favor of DMK 🖤❤️It’s going to be a sweep!#DMK4KONGU #DMK4TN #MKSTALINFORCM,” the tweet read.
Based on this, we checked the official social media handles of DMK and DMK President M K Stalin. We found the same pictures on their social media handle dated March 19, 2021.

It should be noted that the DMK and Congress are forming an alliance for the upcoming state assembly election which will is scheduled to take place on April 6, 2021. However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was not present for the above-mentioned rally.
Moreover, we ran a search and found that on March 19, 2021, Rahul Gandhi was campaigning in Assam.
The campaign schedule of Rahul Gandhi for March 19,2021, was also present on Congress’s official Twitter handle.
Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the pictures are not of Rahul Gandhi’s welcome in Tamil Nadu.
