A newspaper clip is being shared on social media with a claim that Indian Railways might charge 10 per cent extra fare from passengers who want to sleep while travelling on train.
A Facebook user shared the newspaper clip with a Hindi caption, “यात्री यदि ट्रेन में नींद लेकर सफर करना चाहे, उनसे 10%किराया अधिक वसूल सकता है रेल्वे ः भगतो के लिए अच्छी खबर.”
(Translation: If the passenger wants to travel by sleeping on the train, the railways can charge 10% more fare from them. Good news for devotees.)

According to the newspaper clip, Tarun Jain, Chief Passenger Traffic Manager of North-Western Railway gave a suggestion to the Railway Board in the matter of increasing revenue of Railways.
The report further stated that Jain suggested – Railways decide the fare according to the kilometer. This tradition is now outdated. Most travellers prefer to travel at night.
For example, the night train from Jaipur to Bhopal is suitable, which reaches Bhopal at 6 to 7 in the morning. In such a situation, by marking these two stations as one sector, the fare between the two stations should be increased by 10%. This should be done sector-wise in all trains, not only in terms of distance between two stations.
We then checked the Twitter handle of the Ministry of Railways and found a tweet of the government nodal agency Press Information Bureau (PIB).

According to PIB, the claim in the post is false. It further stated that it was just a suggestion given to the Railway Board in this regard. No such announcement has been made, it added.
