Fact Check: No, CBSE Has NOT Reduced Class 10 Social Science Syllabus Further; Here’s The Truth

A message is being shared on social media with a claim that the syllabus of CBSE Class 10 Social Science examination has been further reduced.

A Facebook page shared the post, saying, “The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reduced the syllabus for the social sciences exam by providing relief to the students of class 10 all over the country. CBSE has taken the decision of reducing the syllabus in view of providing leeway to students in the class 10 board examination.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be false.

Firstly, we looked for news items and found some media reports which rejected the claim in the viral post.

According to an NDTV report, dated February 26, 2021, which quoted a CBSE official, there was no official word on further reduction in the syllabus of Class 10 Social Science as was being claimed.

An Indian Express report, dated February 26, 2021, also stated that there will is no reduction in the syllabus.

The Class 10 examination is scheduled to be held from May 4 to June 10, 2021. The Social Science paper of Class 10 board examination is scheduled for May 27, 2021. The board, last year, reduced Classes 9 to 12 syllabus for all subjects by 30 per cent for the academic year 2020-21 in view of online classes.

We then checked the CBSE website and found no such news of syllabus reduction. Below is the syllabus of Social Science for Class 10.

On digging further, we found a tweet by the government nodal agency, PIB, which also clarified that there has been no further reduction in Class 10 Social Science syllabus.

 

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the CBSE has not reduced the syllabus of CBSE Class 10 Social Science examination. The claim in the viral message is FALSE.
