Hours after party colleague Anand Sharma’s open condemnation over the party’s alliance with Indian Secular Front (ISF) in Bengal for polls in the state starting later this month, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on late Monday night reacted to it.

Chowdhury, also the chief of the Congress in Bengal, said he would urge “a select group of distinguished Congressmen to rise above always seeking personal comfort spots” and stop singing praises of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sharma had tweeted that Congress cannot be selective in fighting communalists but must do so in all its manifestations, irrespective of religion and colour.

Chowdhury has posted a series of tweets in a scorching thread titled “Know Your Facts, Anand Sharma”.

He added, “Those who are committed to fight against BJP parties venomous communalism should support the Congress & campaign for the party in five states rather than attempting to undermine the party by remarks in tune with BJP’s agenda.”

Congress and the Left front alliance sat for a meeting today to discuss seat-sharing for the upcoming assembly polls. Till now, 92 seats have been finalised for Congress to contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly election.

West Bengal is scheduled to see elections in eight phases starting from March 27 and concluding on April 29 for its 294 assembly seats. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
