Amidst rising petrol prices, a picture post is doing rounds on social media with a claim that BJP leader Manoj Tiwari said that the price of petrol would have been Rs 200/litre if the Modi Government was not in power.
The text on the picture in Hindi read: “मोदी जी की सरकार नहीं होती तो पेट्रोल का दाम आज 200 रुपए होता: मनोज तिवारी, बीजेपी नेता”
(Translation: The price of petrol would have been Rs 200/litre if the Modi Government was not in power)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be FAKE.
We put the above statement through a Google search along with keywords such as ‘मनोज तिवारी‘, ‘पेट्रोल का दाम‘, ‘200 रुपए’, etc, and did not find any authentic report to prove that Tiwari made the above statement.
When a public figure makes a statement, it is usually there on their official website and social media handles. We scanned Tiwari’s Twitter handle but did not find anything remotely close to the statement in question.
Though we did not find any tweet on his profile, we found the same tweet published on February 17, 2021, on a Twitter handle, Dainik Khaskar.
On comparing the two tweets, we found out that the text of both the tweets, their time of posting and dateline matched which proved that the screenshot of the tweet doing the rounds has been taken from Dainik Khaskar’s tweet.
The bio of Dainik Khaskar’s Twitter account read, ‘Welcome to the official page of Dainik Khaskar. 100% fake news. Parody. Tweets are for fun only. (sic)’
In conclusion, upon analysing our findings, it is safe to say that the statement in question stemmed from a parody account and is being falsely attributed to BJP MP Manoj Tiwari.
