A video is being shared on social media with a claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was heavily criticised in the Parliament, following which he was left speechless.
In the video, Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh, Viplove Thakur, who retired last year, can be seen coming down heavily on PM Modi.
A Facebook user shared the post with a Hindi caption, “संसद भवन में उड़ी मोदी की … , मोदी जी की हुई बोलती बंद”
(Translation: Modi was mocked in the Parliament. Modiji left speechless)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be false.
Firstly, we searched for Viplove Thakur’s speech in Parliament and found her speech, dated February 6, 2020, on Congress’s official YouTube channel. The title of the video read: “Viplove Thakur’s Remarks on Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in Rajya Sabha”.
In the above video, the Rajya Sabha MP – who has now retired – can be seen giving the same speech as in the video in question. On watching this video till the end, we couldn’t find PM Modi in the video. This means the video in question is edited. Two unrelated videos of the Parliament therefore had been merged together.
Also, the then Congress MP was speaking in the Upper House of the Parliament as she was a member of Rajya Sabha, while PM Modi can be seen standing in the Lok Sabha. It is clear from the logo of RSTV and LSTV in the video. The colour of the benches are also different.
We also found the full video of PM Modi on his YouTube channel, titled: “How Modi Govt’s farmer friendly policies are strengthening the agriculture sector?”
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the video in question is edited. Don’t fall for it.
