Fact Check: Did Bajrang Dal Stage Protest In Uttar Pradesh In Support Of Farmers? Here’s The Truth

Date:

A picture is being shared on social media with a claim that Bajrang Dal members staged a protest in Uttar Pradesh against the three farm laws that have triggered ongoing farmers’ protest in the national capital.

“उत्तर प्रदेश में बजरंग दल ने किसान विरोधी काले कृषि कानून के खिलाफ विरोध किया और प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को चोर बोला अब उनको सच्चाई पता चल गया है यह चौकीदार नहीं यह चोर?????,” the Facebook post read.

(Translation: Bajrang Dal is protesting against the anti-farmer farm laws in Uttar Pradesh and is calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a thief. Even they know the truth now.)

Here’s the link to the above post. Some users also shared the video of the event with the same claim.

The posts can be seen here, here and here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We put the picture through Reverse Image Search along with some keywords and found a similar picture in Sakal, a Marathi daily. “Shiv Sena’s bullock cart morcha against petrol, diesel and gas price hike in Hingoli,” the translated headline of the article read.

According to the article, Shiv Sena MLA Santosh Bangar led the protest on February 5, 2021, demanding reduction in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas.

We noticed that in the picture, a poster had pictures of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya Thackeray and late Bal Thackeray.

Based on this, we ran another keyword search and found the video of the rally on YouTube dated February 5, 2021.

“Modi government is a thief sloganeering / Shiv Sena Hingoli district MLA Santosh Bangar on the road, ” the translated (via Google) title of the video read.

Hence, based on the above information, it is clear that the video is of Shiv Sena members protesting against the fuel price hike and NOT of Bajrang Dal protesting in Uttar Pradesh against the three farm laws.
