Fact Check
NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found it to be misleading.
Firstly, we searched for the news and found reports by several media outlets, stating that the self-registration for a COVID-19 vaccine for the 50-plus population in India is ready and will be launched soon. However, no one mentioned a specific date or month about the same.
According to the above cited Mint report, the development came forth in a high-level meeting chaired by Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, PK Mishra, on Wednesday, to review in detail the progress of the covid-19 vaccination drive across the country and steps to accelerate the pace of vaccination.
Currently, people cannot register for COVID-19 vaccine as only officials have access to it.
On digging further, we also found a tweet by government’s nodal information agency – Press Information Bureau – refuting messages on self-registration for citizens aged above 50 in February.
A #WhatsApp message claims that the inoculation registration on the #CowinApp will open in February for citizens aged above 50.#PIBFactCheck: This claim is #Fake. No such decision has been taken by the Government.

Hence, till the time of filing this report and basis the above information, it is clear that the government has not made any such date announcement regarding vaccine registration for people above 50 years of age.
