A horrific crime was reported from Kerela’s Kollam district, where a 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his minor daughter.
As per media reports, the man allegedly committed the heinous crime at his residence in Chathannoor. One more person was also arrested in the matter. Meanwhile, a case has also been registered in connection with the case.
Notably, a friend of rape survivor’s brother had already been arrested in October last year under rape charges.
Media reports suggest that the matter came to light after the girl complained of stomach cramps and was taken to a district hospital. After the check-up, it was revealed by doctors that the girl was raped.

Earlier in the first counselling session of the minor girl, it came out that she was raped by a friend’s brother. But later, in the second counselling session, the girl informed the counsellors that she was also raped by his father.
After the girl’s revelations, the police had arrested both the 22 year old man and the girl’s father.
Police have also registered cases under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and launched an investigation in the matter.
What is POCSO Act?
As per, the ministry of women and child development, the POCSO Act, 2012 is a comprehensive law to provide for the protection of children from the offences of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interests of the child at every stage of the judicial process by incorporating child-friendly mechanisms.
Adding to it, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, or POCSO, (Amendment) Bill, 2019, seeks to provide for stringent punishment to those engaging in sexual crimes against children, death penalty in cases of aggravated sexual assault, besides levying fines and imprisonment, to curb child pornography.
