In the latest development related to the rape and murder case of an 8-year-old Kolkata girl, a 43-year-old man, who was allegedly involved in the crime was arrested by the detective department of the Kolkata police on Monday. The crime had taken place in north Kolkata on the night of February 3.
The person arrested is the second accused in the case and has been identified as Ranvir Tanti, a resident of Bihar’s Begusarai district, Murlidhar Sharma, joint commissioner of police (crime) said.
The first accused is a security guard of the building where the minor’s body was found on the morning of February 4. He was arrested by the detective department on Friday.
As per reports, the girl had come to a house located near the site of the crime in Kolkata’s Jorabagan area. The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted and tortured before being killed with a knife.

“Based on scientific evidence gathered by the forensic team and investigation by the detective department, Ram Kumar, the security guard, was detained. He was arrested after a long interrogation,” Murlidhar Sharma, joint commissioner of police (crime) said after the first arrest.
As per the police, the minor had gone to visit her maternal uncle and was seen playing in the lane in front of her uncle’s house on Wednesday evening. She was reportedly last seen around 8:30 PM that night.
The victim’s body was recovered from the staircase on the third floor of the adjacent building on Thursday morning.
