NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be old and misleading.

With the help of Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture on Facebook posted by Aam Aadmi Party’s MLA from Jagraon (Punjab), Sarvjit Kaur Manuke on July 1, 2020.

Moreover, we also found that the same picture is a report by Jagran, dated July 1, 2020.

As per the report, Joginder Singh, from Cheema village of Sangrur district, started his protest against the Punjab government’s order to permanently close the Shri Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant in Bhatinda. In less than 3 hours after he sat on the dharna, the 55-year-old farmer was found dead at the spot.

Another report stated that he was carrying a flag of Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) and a placard on which it was mentioned that he is sacrificing his life to protest against the decision to auction the land of the thermal plant.

We found various media organisations reported the incident. Read reports here, here and here.

The above information proves that the picture in circulation is old. Hence, the viral post in question is misleading.
