An OpIndia screengrab is going viral on social media claiming that their article mentions that Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg was born in a Muslim family and was later adopted.
”The real face of Great Thunberg. Her real name is Ghazala Bhat she is daughter of Kashmiri Bussinessmen Hilal Bhat who married to Swedish mother Anna Bjorklund converted to Islam became Aafia. Her parents got killed into car accident. She became orphan later adopted by Svante Thunberg,” read the Facebook post.
Translation: ”ग्रेट थुनबर्ग का असली चेहरा। उसका असली नाम ग़ज़ल भट है। वह कश्मीरी बिजनेसमैन हिलाल भट की बेटी है, जिसने स्वीडिश मां अन्ना ब्जोरकुंड से शादी की, जो इस्लाम में परिवर्तित हो गया, वह आफिया बन गया। उसके माता-पिता कार दुर्घटना में मारे गए। वह बाद में Svante Thunberg द्वारा अनाथ हो गई”

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found both the claim and image to be fake.
In our investigation, we first cropped the image and ran a Reverse Image Search that led us to the original photo on Pixabay.
According to the website, Pixabay is a platform for creatives that shares copyright-free images, videos and music.
In the Real Vs Fake collage, it is clear that the face of Greta Thunberg has been cleverly edited and imposed onto the real image.
Further, we also searched for the article on OpIndia‘s website and found nothing related to the claim.
We compared the screengrab with an original story published on OpIndia’s website and found that the viral image had an orange colour highlight under the ‘Home’ section, which hasn’t been added on OpIndia’s website.
Secondly, the image in circulation has grammatical errors that are unlikely to be present in a news article.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the post in circulation is fake.
