A message is doing rounds on social media claiming that TATA group is giving a mobile phone as a Valentine’s Day gift for responding to a questionnaire.
The message read, ‘Answer the questions to receive Valentine’s Day gifts.I participated in this questionnaire and won a mobile phone. My friend also got the prize.Come and get prizes’.
Here’s the link to the above post.
NewsMobile fact-checked the above message and found it to be FAKE.
We started our investigation by checking the link in the viral message (https://www.raiwp8v.cn/index.php?app=tata#) and here’s what we found:
1. A ‘Congratulations!’ pops on the screen which reads ‘Today, 5 February, (sic) 2021, you have been chosen to participate in our survey. It will only take you a minute and you will receive a fantastic prize: a Mi 11T! Each Friday we randomly choose 50 users to give them a chance to win amazing prizes. Today’s prize is a Mi 11T! There will be 50 lucky winners.’
It asks some personal questions like, ‘Are you a male or a female’, ‘How old are you’, ‘How would you rate Tata Auto Services?’ etc.
2. On answering all questions, it led us to the second page that said ‘Congratulations, your answers have been successfully saved!’ It further said, ‘You have the chance to win an Mi 11T. You must select the correct box with your prize inside. You have 3 attempts. Good luck!’.
3. Upon clicking the boxes, we got the ‘Mi 11T’.
It said: ‘You did it! You won the Mi 11T! ***THE RULES*** 1. You must tell 5 groups or 20 friends about Tata promotions. 2. Enter your address and download the app. 3. Mi 11T will be delivered within 5-7 days’
5. And then, it asked us to share the same message on WhatsApp.
On further investigation, we scanned through the verified Twitter handle of TATA group and found a tweet where they have clarified that this information is untrue and that TATA hasn’t offered any such promotions.
These claims and links haven’t been issued by us. Be careful and always check the sources. pic.twitter.com/LzCQSOFF4M
