FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be misleading.

We ran a search and found that the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections will take place in December 2021.

We then checked the official website of Chandigarh Administration and found the result for 2016 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election.

We noticed, the viral result being shared on social media is actually of 2016.

This proves that old results are being circulated on social media.

However, in our search, we also found a report by TOI dated January 8, 2021, stating that BJP candidate Ravikant Sharma won the Chandigarh municipal corporation mayoral poll.

The report mentioned that ‘in 27-member MC assembly, total 24 votes were polled. Out of these 24 polled votes, BJP’s Ravikant Sharma got 17 votes and Congress Devinder Singh Babla got 5 votes. Two votes were termed invalid’.

A similar report was also published by the Hindustan Times.

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that 2016 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election results are being passed off as recent.
