At least four workers died and a few others fell ill on Wednesday after a toxic gas leakage took place at a unit of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha.

The incident took place at the Coal Chemical Department of the Rourkela Steel Plant in the morning when 10 workers were on duty.
The four workers who lost their lives in the mishap were contractual workers engaged by a private company, as per reports.

“According to a preliminary report, the four workers died due to emission of carbon monoxide gas from the unit,” Officials told news agency PTI.
As per reports, the four workers were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) where they died, while a few others are getting treatment in the Rourkela Steel Plant dispensary.
The RSP authorities have reportedly ordered a high-level investigation into the mishap.
