Date:

As the world entered 2021, a picture of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wearing a skull cap started making rounds on social media with a claim that he offered namaz at the Jama Masjid in Delhi.

“बड़ी खब़र: साल के पहले दिन जामा मस्जिद जाकर दिल्ली के मालिक जनाब भो श्री अरविंद केजरीवाल ने पढ़ी नमाज़ देश और दिल्ली के लिये पढ़ी दुआ ।” the post claimed.

(Translation: Big news: On the first day of the year, the owner of Delhi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal, went to Jama Masjid and offered prayer for the country and Delhi.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

While searching for posts on Facebook, we found that the same picture was also shared in 2016 by a Facebook user.

This gave us a clue that the picture is old.

We then ran a Reverse Image Search on the picture and found that the same picture was tweeted by the official Twitter account of Aam Aadmi Party Punjab on July 7, 2016.

“Happy Eid to you all,” the translation of the tweet read.

Similar images of CM Kejriwal were also available on the official website of Getty Images.

The description of one of the images read: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in skull cap offers prayers with devotees before breaking the Roza on the Holy Month of Ramzan at Malerkotla in Sangrur on July 4, 2016 in Patiala, India. (Photo by Bharat Bhushan/Hindustan Times via Getty Images)

Moreover, we also scanned through the social media account of Arvind Kejriwal and searched other media organisations but we did not find any credible report to support the claim.

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the post in circulation is false.
