Date:

Over 250 crows have died in Rajasthan which has lead the state authorities to sound a bird flu alert. The avian virus was detected in dead crows in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district and many other cities, including Jaipur, as per officials.

Bird deaths in Jhalawar came to light on December 25. Crows have been impacted the most due to the flu as most deaths have been reported among them.

Seven crows were found dead at Jaipur’s Jal Mahal on Sunday, taking the total deaths to 252 in the state.

As of now, 100 crows have died in Jhalawar, 72 in Baran, 47 in Kota, 19 in Pali and seven in Jodhpur and Jaipur each.

The samples of the dead birds were sent to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal where the presence of the deadly virus was detected in them.

A special team went to Jhalawar and 1 km of the district’s Balaji area was cordoned off and Section 144 was imposed in the region. Dead bodies of birds were disposed of carefully in pits and the area was sanitised carefully.

Notably, last year in Rajasthan’s Sambhar, avian flu had led to the deaths of hundreds of birds.
