In a horrific incident, a Gujarat Police constable, posted in Ahmedabad city’s Ranip, allegedly forced his wife to drink acid and then brutally assaulted her when she pleaded him to take her to a doctor.
The incident happened after the constable’s wife had an argument with his sister over wearing a chaniya-choli, a traditional Indian dress, according to a report by The Times of India. Later, she was taken to the civil hospital in the city by neighbours.
The victim, identified as Jayshree Chauhan, in her complaint to the Shahibaug police, stated that she got married to the Ashok Chauhan in 2015. Soon after the wedding, Ashok and his family members began taunting and harassing her over small issues.

Jayshree also said that her parents had given Ashok a bike as dowry. Eight months back, some monkey damaged the two-wheeler when it was parked outside the house. After this, Ashok allegedly abused and thrashed her, saying her parents have given him a motorcycle of poor quality.
However, Jayshree didn’t raise voice against the domestic violence for a long time, hoping that Ashok would understand and start treating her with respect. But when her husband recently abused and thrashed her again, she decided to seek police help.
