The world’s oldest Panda, Xin Xing, died of multi-organ failure at the age of 38 years on December 8 at Chongqing Zoo in south-western China.

Xin Xang was born in the wild in the Baoxing County of Sichuan Province in August 1982 and was sent to the zoo a year after where she lived for the rest of her life. In human-age equivalent, Xin Xang was more than 130 years old when she passed away. She was often called by the name ‘hero mother.’ The panda celebrated her 38th birthday in August this year with a grand birthday party in which she was offered a cake made with a chunk of ice and her favourite fruits.

The zoo administration mentioned that Xin Xang had been experiencing a decreased appetite and tiredness lately, as per reports. According to reports, the zoo invited experts from China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center and the First Affiliated Hospital of the Heavy Medical School to treat Xin Xing, but all efforts went in vain.

Apart from Xin Xing, only one other panda, Jia Jia, lived up to the age of 38.
