Fact Check: Don’t Fall For Altered Picture Of Amit Shah Eating Fish, Biryani On His Recent Visit To Bengal

A picture of Home Minister Amit Shah eating fish and biryani is making rounds on social media. It is being claimed that on one side the farmers of the country are on the streets in cold winters, protesting for their rights and on the other hand, Home Minister Amit Shah is enjoying himself.

The Facebook caption read, “ये क्या बंगाल की चुनावी मछली-बिरयानी है ?
देश के किसान अपनी मांगों के लिए ठंड में सड़कों पर है, मजदूर,युवा,व्यापारी बेहाल है और गृहमंत्री मोटा भाई मस्त है।”

(Translation: “Is the elections of Bengal equivalent to fish-biryani? The farmers of the country are on the streets in cold winters for their rights, the labourers, the youth, the businessmen are in trouble and the Home Minister ‘Mota Bhai’ is enjoying.”)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be morphed and misleading.

On putting the picture through Google Reverse Image Search, we found the real picture in a tweet by BJP MLA Rushikesh Patel dated December 19, 2019.


Moreover, we also found several other pictures on Twitter shared by Amit Shah on December 19, 2020, claiming that delicious lunch was arranged at the residence of Shri Jhunu Singh and Shri Sanatan Singh Mahasaya in Belijuri village of Midnapore (West Bengal).

On comparing the Fake vs Real collage, we can clearly see that the viral post is morphed.

Moreover, according to a news report by News18 dated December 19, 2020, Amit Shah and other guests sat on the floor in the veranda and ate ‘sak bhaja‘, ‘lau dal‘, ‘shukto‘, ‘cauliflower tarkari‘, ‘posto‘ and ‘tok doi‘.

Further, we also found a news report by ANI dated December 20, 2020, with description, “Birbhum (West Bengal), Dec 20 (ANI): Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah along with other party leaders including Mukul Roy, Dilip Ghosh had lunch at the residence of a Baul singer at Bolpur, Birbhum district. Shah’s much-anticipated visit to the state of West Bengal began on December 19.”

Hence, with the help of the above information, it is clear that the original picture of Amit Shah is edited to mislead the masses.
