Joe Biden Announces Climate And Energy Team, Also Set To Rejoin Paris Accord

US President elect Joe Biden and Vice-President elect Kamala Harris are set to carry out an ambitious plan with a climate and energy team in place to combat climate change when they step into White House on January 20th. This is in sharp contrast to incumbent US President Donald Trump’s policies on climate change, including walking out of the Paris accord.

The new Biden administration will rejoin the Paris accord which was part of the pre-poll promise made to the people of America. The US became the first country under Trump’s rule to formally withdraw from the Pairs agreement which works towards controlling global warming.

Biden said there is no time to lose. “When it comes to the existential threat of climate change, we have no time to lose. This team will be ready on day one to meet this moment with the urgency it demands and build our nation back better than ever.”

Meanwhile Vice-President elect Kamala Harris tweeted saying, “The climate team @JoeBiden and I introduced today is ready to confront the climate crisis head-on with our allies around the world.”

Biden described his new team members as brilliant, qualified, tested and barrier-busting.

The nominees include North Carolina’s top environmental regulator Michael Regan, who would be the first African-American man to head the EPA. New Mexico representative Deb Haaland is also part of the team who would be the first Native American to lead the Department of the Interior.

Others in the fray are environmental lawyer and Obama administration official Brenda Mallory. Mallory was nominated to run the Council on Environmental Quality and would be the first African American to hold the position if she makes it to the team.

Others likely to make it to the team include former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, nominated for the position of energy secretary. John Kerry, a former secretary of state and one of the leading architects of the Paris agreement, was named by Biden in November as his climate envoy.
