FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be misleading.

We checked the official website of the government to gain more information regarding the same and found that the Press Information Bureau (PIB) had issued a clarification on the same.

“Through a video on Facebook, it is being claimed that the Indian government has put stamps of a private company on the trains. This claim is misleading, this is just a commercial advertisement with the aim of improving ‘non-rental revenue,” the tweet read. (Translated via Google)

We then also ran a keyword search and found a circular by the Indian Railways dated June 21, 2012, regarding commercial publicity on trains through vinyl wrapping.

We also found an article by media4growth from 2019 stating that engines of different trains will be available for for branding purposes, wherein promotions can be done only through stickers.

We also found various informational videos on YouTube regarding advertisements on railway engines.

On September 15, 2020, NewsMobile debunked another video, which was being shared with the same claim.
