The US Supreme Court has struck down President Donald Trump’s election challenge where his team was looking for ways to overturn the November 3rd election results. The bid from the Texas attorney general was rejected on Friday where millions of votes cast in the ballot sought to be overturned, which have gone on President elect Joe Biden’s favour.
Biden won electoral votes in all four key states in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and the US apex court overturned the Texas lawsuit which sought to invalidate results in these battleground states. The apex court observed that Texas did not have the legal standing to bring forward the case which was supported by 18 state attorneys general and 106 Republican members of Congress.
Earlier this week, the court rejected another legal challenge of Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania. Trump and his supporters have launched dozens of lawsuits questioning the results of the election. None have come close to overturning Mr Biden’s victory. The top court not ruling in the Trump camp’s favour come as a huge setback for the US President who has been unsuccessful since November. His campaign has been trying to establish without substantial evidence that the vote counting process was fraudulent which pave the way for Biden and Vice-President elect Kamala Harris to form the new administration in the US come January 20th 2021.
Biden, the Democrat candidate crossed the 270 electoral college vote mark to win the 303 electoral college votes as opposed to 232 electoral college votes secured by his Republican counterpart and incumbent US President Trump.
Though Trump and his team continue to try and establish counting fraud, President elect Biden has begun announcing government department nominees and shaping his incoming administration’s policies.
