Fact Check: No, Indian Railways Has NOT Renamed Hazrat Nizamuddin Station As ‘Maharana Pratap Expression’

A post is widely being circulated on social media claiming that the Indian Railways has changed the name of ‘Hazrat Nizamuddin’ railway station to ‘Maharana Pratap Expression’.

The Facebook post read, “भारतीय रेलवे ने हज़रत निज़ामुद्दीन का नाम बदल कर अब
“महाराणा प्रताप एक्सप्रेशन” कर दिया है”
(Translation: Indian Railways has changed the name of Hazrat Nizamuddin now. The new name is Maharana Pratap Expression.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be false and misleading.

Firstly, we searched for some information about Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and found that H. Nizamuddin Railway station is situated in New Delhi and the station code is NZM.

Further, we also checked the name of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on IRCTC and found that the name has not been changed to Maharana Pratap Expression.

We also found a post by PIB dated December 2, 2020, claiming that the Indian Railways has not changed Hazrat Nizamuddin name to ‘Maharana Pratap Expression’.

Moreover, we also checked the name of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station on some travel websites like Clear Trip, Trip Advisor, Goibibo and Yatra but could not find any information claiming that Indian Railways has changed Hazrat Nizamuddin name to ‘Maharana Pratap Expression’.

Hence, it is clear that Indian Railways has not changed Hazrat Nizamuddin name to ‘Maharana Pratap Expression’. All social media posts related to this are false and misleading.
