Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a new reservation category has been introduced for candidates who have applied for medical colleges for the academic year 2020-21.
The new category will be called ‘Wards of Covid Warriors’ under which the kin of Covid-19 warriors will be granted admissions in MBBS and BDS courses.
“Health Ministry approves new category for selection & nomination of candidates from ‘Wards of COVID Warriors’ under Central Pool MBBS/BDS seats for 2020-21. It will honour the solemn sacrifice of all COVID warriors who served selflessly,” Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Thursday.

Under this new category, five seats will be reserved for the wards of Covid-19 warriors in MBBS and BDS colleges across India for this academic session, Vardhan said.
The seats under this new category are set to be reserved for the children of COVID-19 warriors that includes ASHA workers working on the ground, nurses, and doctors who have lost their lives in the pandemic or died accidentally on account of Covid-19 related duty.
