Another horrifying incident of crime against women was reported from UP’s Bulandshahar where a rape victim was allegedly set afire by the uncle of the accused after she refused to reach a compromise on the court case against the culprit.
The victim succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday night after being shifted to Delhi for treatment. The victim’s family blamed that they were receiving threats from the friends of the accused of not settling the rape case.
As per the FIR registered in the case, the victim’s father has said that the kin of the accused doused his daughter in petrol and set her ablaze. Police have registered the complaint against seven persons under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
Police also arrested four persons, including rape accused. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Kumar Singh told news agency PTI, that two policemen have also been suspended for the negligence in the matter.

Police had earlier said that the woman had allegedly set herself on fire due to stress.
Earlier, the victim filed the complaint of rape on August 15, she was raped by a man who had come to her village to guard a mango orchard, the SSP had said. The accused was arrested the same day and has been in prison, the police official told PTI.
