In a bizarre update, a transgender person brought up as a male in the UK got pregnant after he was detected with functioning ovaries, a uterus, cervix and fallopian tubes inside their body.
Mikey Chanel was born with a functional external male genitalia and was said to be recognised as a male, however, they told ‘The Mirror’ that before their birth, tests done on their mother revealed that a girl would be born.
The 18-year-old recalled their childhood and said that ‘he’ always felt different fro his male peers. Mikey told the media that they loved playing with her aunt’s purse and mother’s lipstick.
They also revealed that except for some facial hair, they never really had any man-like features rather their body type was always feminine. The female reproductive organs were discovered in their body after they complained of having a “weird feeling” after having sex or peeing.
It was later diagnosed that Mikey had a rare condition — Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS), in which a person has external male genitals but internal female reproductive organs.
Mikey was told that their male reproductive organs are becoming infertile and hence Mikey decided to have a baby soon. Sperms from donors were directly injected into their eggs (due to absence of vaginal opening), to make them pregnant.
Mikey is now four months pregnant and wants to raise awareness about his rare condition. They also want to fight for breaking social stigmas around gender nonconformity.
