With this, the overall tally of cases mounted to 88,74,291, including 4,53,401 active cases and 82,90,371 recoveries. The cumulative death toll climbed to 1,30,519 after 449 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

This is the tenth day when India reported less than 50,000 cases in a day. The last time daily new cases crossed the 50,000-threshold was on November 7.

Meanwhile, the number of cases in the national capital has seen a decline after hitting the peak of its third wave, as per Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

The national capital reported more than 6,000 COVID-19 cases for days together, eventually hitting a record high of over 8,000 new infections in a day. However, on November 15 and 16, Delhi reported 3,235 and 3,797 cases respectively.

Significant to note, the tests conducted on these two days were almost half the number of tests that were being carried out on a daily basis before that. Nearly 50,000 people were tested on Nov 14, while 21,098 tests were conducted on Nov 15, as per Delhi Government data.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced during a press conference that only 50 people will be allowed in marriage functions instead of 200. He added that Delhi LG’s approval has been sought for the same and he is awaiting a reply.

Kejriwal added that a proposal will be sent to the central government seeking their approval for allowing the Delhi government to shut down any potential superspreader market for some days if people are seen flouting norms.

Meanwhile, India has continued to report more daily new recoveries than the single-day rise in the number of COVID-19 cases for the 44th day, as per the Union Health Ministry.
