Even as world leaders congratulate Joe Biden and wishes pour in for Kamala Harris, Us Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised a ‘smooth transition’ to a second Trump administration. Donald Trump has refused to accept the US election results and consistently alleged vote fraud with regards to counting of ballots.
Addressing a news conference, Pompeo said, “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.”
“The world should have every confidence that the transition necessary to make sure that the State Department is functional today… with the President who is in office on January 20 a minute after noon will be successful,” Pompeo said, referring to the presidential inauguration date.
Pompeo’s comments follow a decision by Attorney General William Barr to loosen restrictions on federal prosecutors investigating voter fraud, which President Trump claims was rampant.
Trump meanwhile besides using Twitter to claim victory, praised Pompeo’s reference to ‘smooth transition’ to second Trump administration.
