In its directions, the Supreme court has asked Goswami to execute a personal bond of Rs 50,000 for release on interim bail.
Supreme Court also ordered Raigad Police to release Goswami on immediate basis. The top court also allowed the interim release of the co-accused Neetish Sarda and Firoze Mohammed Sheikh in the case.
The case was fought by Senior Advocate Harish Salve representing Arnab Goswami and Advocate Kapil Sibal representing the Maharashtra Government.
The bench hearing the matter consisted of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Indira Banerjee. The judges observed that it will be a travesty of justice if bail is not granted while FIR is pending.
J Chandrachud: We are assuming the allegations of FIR as gospel truth but even then is a case of Section 306 made out?
In a matter like this when some dues was not paid would a suicide mean abetment.
Would it not be a travesty of justice if someone is denied bail for this? pic.twitter.com/9duadaWL1B

Some of the observations made by the Supreme Court in the case are as follows:
- If left to me, I do not watch the channel and you may differ in ideology, but if constitutional courts do not interfere today, we are travelling the path of destruction undeniably.
Chandrachud: If we don’t interfere in this case today we will walk on path of destruction
If left to me I won’t watch the channel and you may differ in ideology but constitutional courts will have to protect such freedoms then we are walking on path of destruction. #ArnabGoswami pic.twitter.com/nJALmA5QHe

- Our democracy is extraordinarily resilient. Point is, governments should ignore them (taunts on TV). This is not the basis on which elections are fought. You (Maharashtra) think what they say makes any difference in the elections?
- We must send a message today to the high courts as well. Please exercise your jurisdiction to uphold personal liberty.
