An knife wielding attacker killed two people and and wounded many others near the Notre Dame Church in the French city of Nice on Thursday. Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi took to Twitter and described this as an act of terrorism. Cops have detained the attacker.
The attack comes within days of the beheading of French middle school history teacher Samuel Paty by a man of Chechen origin for showing cartoons of Prophet Mohammed to his students.

Newswire Reuters reports that police armed with automatic weapons had put up a security cordon around the church. The church is located on Nice’s main shopping thoroughfare Jean Medecin avenue.
Since Paty’s beheading, French officials – backed by ordinary citizens – have reemphasized the right to display the cartoons, a move which has triggered angry reactions from the Muslim world.
The motive of the Nice attack is being investigated.
India meanwhile has deplored ‘personal attack’s by Pakistan and Turkey and extended support to Macron. India said there was no justification for terrorism under any circumstance. Macron had described the Paris beheading as an act of Islamic terror.
