Another rape incident has convulsed the people of Bihar. A body of a girl has been found from the bushes under the Tariyani police station, Sheohar district in Bihar. Though the motive behind the heinous crime is yet to be known, local police are suspecting that the girl was murdered after being raped.
Sheohar SP Santosh Kumar said, “There are speculations that she was murdered after being raped. We are investigating the matter. Police reached the spot and preserved the body. A sub-divisional police officer has been sent to the spot with a dog squad. We are investigating the case from every angle. We have also talked to relatives and locals.”

This is not the lone incident that got people’s attention. The alleged gang-rape of a 28-year-old married Dalit woman by 7 people in Buxar district was severely criticized by BSP chief Mayawati. She also urged Election Commission to take note of the matter.
According to official data of the state crime records bureau of 2019, on average one rape case is reported in less than six hours every day in Bihar.
The number of crimes against women in the year 2018 went up more than 15 per cent compared to the previous year. The state saw more than 2,200 cases in 2018 compared to 14,711 in 2017.
