Andhra woman set on fire by her ex-boyfriend, she pulls him in; both dead

A 24-year-old woman died of burn injuries at her residence in Andhra Pradesh’s Hanumanpeta on Monday allegedly after a man, she had recently ended her relationship with, set her on fire for refusing his marriage proposal.

The victim, identified as Chinnari, worked as a nurse at a private COVID care centre. She and the man are both natives of Vissannapeta. The man, identified as Nagabhushanam, also suffered 80 per cent burns and later died during treatment at Government General Hospital in Guntur, according to reports.

According to local police, the couple had been in a relationship for the past four years but some months ago the woman decided to end the relationship. However, the man refused to accept the breakup and began stalking and harassing her and tried to coerce her into marrying him.

On October 5, the woman had lodged a complaint against the accused at a police station in Vijayawada, following which the man was called to the station and asked to sign an undertaking saying he would not harass her in the future.

However on Monday, when the woman came from work, the man was waiting for her at her room and started threatening her for filing a police complaint against him.

He later doused her in petrol and set her on fire but the victim held on to him tightly so that he could not escape.
