A 37-year-old man, a plumber by profession, was arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly raping a woman in her 80s, in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla on Monday evening, police said.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal met the victim on Tuesday. “90-year-old woman raped and assaulted in Delhi’s Chhawla, Najafgarh area. DCW Chief Swati Maliwal met the lady today. Accused has been arrested, FIR registered,” DCW posted on Twitter today.
“From a six-month-old girl to a 90-year-old woman, no one is safe in Delhi. The kind of trauma this woman had to face clearly indicates that the perpetrators of these crimes are not humans. I met the woman today, she is an extremely courageous woman. We will ensure she gets justice. This case needs to be fast tracked and justice should be served within six months,” DCW Chief, Swati Maliwal said.

Reportedly, the incident took place on Monday evening when the woman was on her way to visit a nearby village. She met the accused midway, who offered her a lift on his two-wheeler, a senior police officer said. Instead, he took the elderly woman to an isolated field and raped her, he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, Santosh Kumar Meena said, “A case under section 376 (rape) of IPC was registered and the accused was arrested. The medical examination of the victim was conducted and her statement has been recorded.” The police also said that the woman is stable now, adding that she was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
