COVID-19 | Offices, shops except essential to remain closed on weekends in Haryana


The Haryana government on Friday announced that all offices and shops will remain closed in the state every Saturday and Sunday due to the COVID-19 pandemic. State Health Minister Anil Vij said that shops selling essential items will be exempted from the order.

The announcement came as Haryana recorded its highest single-day spike of 996 coronavirus cases on Thursday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the northern state stands at 50,926, with 578 fatalities.

Haryana has been recording a high number of coronavirus cases for the past several days. While on Wednesday, a total of 994 COVID-19.

Haryana announced the curbs a day after Punjab government issued a series of emergency directives, including extending weekend lockdown with daily night curfew from 7 pm to 5 am in all 167 cities/towns across the state.
