Fact Check: Old picture of a truck stuck in a crater shared as recent photo from Mumbai

With many areas of Mumbai waterlogged due to incessant rainfall that the city has witnessed over the last few days, a picture of an Ashok Leyland truck stuck in a hole on a busy road is being shared on social media.

The post claims that the picture was taken recently in Mumbai.

“Meanwhile in Mumbai today, NASA is nervous and CHINA is scared that INDIA is preparing to launch an Ashok Leyland into space,” the caption claims.

FACT CHECK 

NewsMobile fact checked the post and found it to be misleading.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture in a tweet dated 2018. In fact, the picture was tweeted with the same caption.

Upon further research, we found the same picture in a blog post dated 2015.

NewsMobile independently couldn’t confirm the origin and location of the picture, but, based on the above Fact Check it is clear that the picture in question has been on the internet for at least 5 years now and is not related to recent rain induced havoc in Mumbai.

Hence, the post in question is misleading.
