In a first, Military Band to perform for a fortnight across India as a mark of respect for COVID warriors

In a first, bands of Indian Army , Navy and Air Force will be performing for a fortnight till the Independence Day ( August 15), in different parts of the country to celebrate the Independence Day amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Today the army band performed in Nagpur. The PRO Defence Nagpur tweeted the visuals from their official twitter handle.

To find a creative and safer way to mark the celebrations and to sow their gratitude towards COVID warriors, the army thought of executing this idea.

It has already begun since August 1 and will last till August 15. Military bands have already performed in Porbandar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Raipur, Amritsar, Guwahati, Allahabad and Kolkata.

“The performances are intended as gestures of gratitude and appreciation of the nation towards the corona warriors who have been steadfastly fighting to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the country even at the risk of their lives,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

However, the military bands are preparing their shows in advance which is likely to be telecasted on Independence Day.

The military and police bands are scheduled to perform in Srinagar and Kolkata on August 7, the  statement from Defence ministry read.
