Kanpur Police on Wednesday arrested two civil officers for tipping off the absconding gangster Vikas Dubey. After the dense investigation police found out Chaubeypur SHO (Station House Officer) Vinay Tiwari and Sub Inspector KK Sharma were prompting the accused.
After a full day of investigation police arrested SHO Tiwari and Bikru beat in-charge Sharma. Both police officers were present during the raid conducted against dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey in Kanpur, but fled the site of the incident during the operation.
Earlier, a close aide of history-sheeter Vikas Dubey was shot dead in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Task Force on Wednesday morning. Dubey is the main accused in Kanpur’s encounter case that took place last Thursday. Since then he has been on the run.
As per reports, Vikas Dubey was last seen at a hotel in Haryana’s Faridabad near Delhi on Tuesday. Unfortunately by the time the police reached the hotel, he had managed to escape. Faridabad and Gurgaon police have been put on high alert.
Amar Dubey, a close aide of the accused was also said to be involved in the killing of 8 policemen. The co-accused was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Task Force (STF) with inputs from Hamirpur Police.
“Amar Dubey, a close aide to Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Task Force in Hamirpur today,” UP Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said.
He also informed that the UP Special Task Force (STF) shot him down in coordination with the local police unit in Hamirpur. There was a bounty of Rs 25,000 on him, Kumar said.
A police inspector and a constable of the STF were injured in the gunfight, he added.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) Shlok Kumar, UP said to ANI, that an automatic weapon and a bag was recovered from Amar Dubey after the encounter. “Forensic team is on their way to the encounter site, further investigation is underway,” he said.
The search operation for the history-sheeter is at its peak, with over 40 police teams and UP STF working together to nab the gangster. Post the Kanpur incident, the bounty on the arrest of Vikas Dubey has been increased to Rs 5 lakh. Police have put up posters at Unnao toll plaza and in Lakhimpur district near the India-Nepal border area.
Vikas Dubey is the main accused in the Kanpur encounter case, in which he and his men allegedly opened fire on a police team which came to arrest him on July 2 late night. Eight policemen including circle officer Devendra Mishra were killed in the encounter.
