In a massive pro-poor push, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation today spelt out good news for 80 crore people across the country.
Announcing free food grains for 80 crore people till November, he said that the PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana will be extended throughout India till Diwali and Chatth Puja. He said that this move will directly entail free ration to nearly 80 crore people nationwide.
Prime Minister said extension of the Garib Kalyan Yojana till November will incur an expenditure of Rs 90,000 crore. The overall outlay will be to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
Standing by hundreds and thousands of migrant workers, PM Modi said the “One Nation, One Ration Card’ move will benefit them immensely. “The biggest benefit of One Nation One Ration Card scheme will be to those poor workers who leave their villages and migrate elsewhere for livelihood,” PM Modi said.
Under the ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ scheme, eligible beneficiaries would be able to avail their entitled foodgrains under will be able to use the same ration card from any fair price shop across the country under the provisions of the National Food Security Act.
Referring to the spike in coronavirus cases, people disobeying national directives in force, including mandatory use of face masks while in public, need to be stopped and made aware of the problem,PM Modi said at the beginning of his 16-minute address to the nation.
“We notice that there has been a negligence on people’s social and personal behaviour. Like the way we used to meticulously wash hands, used sanitisers, wore masks, maintained social distancing and avoided shaking hands. We see that that is not happening as strictly anymore. That is a sign of worry. This is a serious matter, and we must ensure that we maintain the discipline,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi also reaffirmed his government’s push for making India self-reliant and ‘Atmanirbhar’. While outlining that Rs 31,000 crore has been deposited directly in Jan Dhan Accounts and at the core of government’s vision would be ‘Vocal For Local’ agenda.
