Livinguard face masks claim to inactivate coronavirus

Date:

Having conducted more than 65,000 experiments and filing over 100 patents, Switzerland-based hygiene company Livinguard has now rolled out a revolutionary face mask which it claims can inactivate bacteria and viruses including 99.9 per cent of the dreaded novel coronavirus.

Having footprints the world over including the USA, Japan, Germany, Singapore and South Africa, Livinguard plans to roll out these masks in the domestic market from next week.

Conceptualized and invented by Sanjeev Swamy, who is also the CEO of Livinguard, the masks use textiles which inactivate the exhaled viruses on a continuous basis and help reduce infections even beyond COVID-19 including tuberculosis, influenza and yellow fever. The masks are likely to be tested for Ebola in July.

Speaking to NewsMobile from the company headquarters in be Switzerland, Swamy says, “We work on anti-microbial, reusable and washable technologies for the last couple of years. Coronavirus is not like any other virus we have seen. Our team of microbiologists, material scientists and researchers got together when this pandemic broke out to try and figure out what could be done. We went to leading scientists and approached including University of Arizona and Free University of Berlin for testing. A peer review paper is also being published highlighting the efficacy of the product. It has been vetted by top most researchers and scientists as a part of a EU sponsored project.”

The masks – which are being priced between Rs 1400 and Rs 2000 in India – have three layers. The inner layer which touches the lips and face is very soft, the external fabric is harder and waterproof which ensures it remains dry and the filter is embedded in between. Completely washable, each mask can be reused 210 times with no impact on efficacy.

“The mask comprises three layers that give five levels of protection. The unique patented Tripellent Technology on the outer layer offers three levels of protection — antiviral and repellent coating on the outside the fabric, antiviral Technology bonded into the fabric itself and antiviral and repellent coating on the inside of the fabric. Non-woven industry-standard filters in the middle layer channels viruses for destruction to the outer or inner layers.” Swamy says.
