There will be “total lockdown” in Guwahati from Monday for the next two weeks after a sharp surge in new corona virus patients was recorded in the last ten days. The city has recorded over 700 new infections since June 15.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said a 12-hour night curfew will be imposed across the state from 7pm onwards from Friday. “We are now left with no choice but to impose a complete lockdown for 14 days from June 28 midnight, and this time it will be very strict as no grocery shops will be allowed to open or supply of vegetables and other essentials will be permitted for the first seven days,” he said. He stressed, ” “Please finish your shopping by Sunday.”
The government will enforce a complete lockdown in other towns and municipal areas on weekends from June 27 every week till the COVID-19 outbreak is arrested. Next week, only pharmacies and hospitals will be allowed to open in the city. The city has recorded over 700 new infections since June 15.
After phase one of unlock from June 8, some states have imposed strict lockdown in some areas as the number of COVID-19 patients has increased.
