The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a fresh Circular allowing shops in Mumbai’s municipal markets to reopen for the first time since the COVID-19 induced lockdown. BMC has advised all shopkeepers and customers ensure all mandated precautions are followed to prevent the spread of the dreaded coronavirus.
In its communique, BMC has spelt out the odd-even formula for operating shops and establishments. “Traders, vendors, and customers will be required to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines while operating their establishments on both sides of these markets alternately on odd-even basis.” the Circular reads.
The odd-even formula would be binding on all shops and establishments housed in the 200-odd BMC-run municipal markets. Shopkeepers have also been asked to get masks, gloves, sanitizers and check the body temperature of each customer and deploy security guards for crowd management.
