COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Wednesday morning

India reported 15,968 new COVID-19 cases – the highest single-day spike– in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of people infected with coronavirus in the country at 4,56,183. With 465 more deaths, the death toll now stands at 14,476.

According to the Health Ministry Wednesday morning update, there are now 1,83,022 active cases and 2,58,685 people have cured/discharged/migrated.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this morning:

1. The Union government has made it mandatory for all sellers on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), a platform for public procurement, to list the Country of Origin while registering new products.

2. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev unveiled an Ayurvedic medicine — ‘Coronil and Swasari’ — on Tuesday, claiming that clinical trials on COVID-19 affected patients had shown favourable results. However, the Centre asked Patanjali Ayurved Limited to stop advertising the drug and sought details on its claimed “successful trial and cure”.

3. Delhi reported 3,947 new COVID-19 cases — highest single-day spike — and 68 deaths, on Tuesday. The total number of positive cases stand at 66,602 including 24,988 active cases and 23,01 deaths.

4. 3,214 new COVID-19 positive cases, 248 deaths (75 in last 48 hours and 173 in the previous period) and 19,25 discharged in Maharashtra on Tuesday. Total positive cases in the state rose to 1,39,010, including 69,631 recovered patients and 6,531 deaths.

5. Indian Railways to give a full refund for all tickets booked on or prior to 14th April 2020 for regular time-tabled trains: Ministry of Railways

6. Tamil Nadu reported 2,516 new cases, 1,227 discharges, and 39 deaths today. The total number of cases stands at 64,603 and the death toll is at 833: State Health Department.

7. Karnataka reported 322 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and eight deaths on Tuesday, taking the total number of positive cases and deaths to 9,721 and 150, respectively. 6,004 people have been discharged so far: State Health Department

8. 141 fresh COVID-19 cases, one death, and 60 recoveries have been reported in Kerala on Tuesday. Total number of positive cases stands at 3,451, including 1,620 active cases: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

9. Union Territory Ladakh reports 85 new cases of COVID-19, total active case rise to 783; 12 more patients cured and discharged from Leh district: Department of Information & Public Relations, Ladakh

10. 576 new COVID19 positive cases, 515 patients discharged after recovering & 19 deaths in the last 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh. The number of active cases in the states stands at 6189, death toll rises to 588 and total people discharged so far increased to 12,116.
