Patanjali rolls out ayurvedic COVID-19 medicine, Ayush Ministry says furnish details

Date:

Just days after Glenmark Pharmaceuticals rolled out Favipiravir to treat mild to moderate COVID-19 patients after it got necessary drug regulatory approvals, yoga guru Baba Ramdev announced the launch of India’s first ayurvedic, clinically controlled, research, evidence and trial-based medicine to fight the dreaded coronavirus. The Ayush ministry however isn’t ready to give the go-ahead yet and has asked Patanjali to submit all details.

Patanjali launched ‘Coronil and Swasari’ and claimed the clinical trials on affected patients have shown 100 per cent favourable results. “We conducted a clinical case study and clinical controlled trial and found 69 per cent patients recovered in three days and 100 per cent patients recovered in seven days,” Ramdev said while addressing a media conference in Haridwar.

“We conducted two trials of these, first clinical controlled study, which took place in Delhi, Ahmedabad, among many other cities. Under this 280 patients were included and 100 per cent of those recovered. We were able to control coronavirus and its complications in this. After this the all-important clinical control trial was conducted,” Ramdev added.

Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna said that the corona kit will be made available at Rs 545, and is meant to be used in 30 days. The kit will be available in Patanjali stores within a week and an app would be launched to facilitate delivery. Ayush Ministry has directed Patanjali to stop advertising and publicising the product.

Though Ramdev said necessary approvals from requisite authorities had been taken prior to the announcement, Indian Council of Medical Research meanwhile said its has no idea about the medicine.

Reacting to media reports, the Ayush ministry issued a statement asking Patanjali to furnish all necessary details and directed the company to stop advertising and publicising such claims till the issue is duly examined.

Globally, while the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the wait for vaccine continues.
