Rajasthan puts a cap on corona treatment, testing cost by private hospitals

Rajasthan has become one of the few states in the country to put a cap on testing and treatment of coronavirus patients by private hospitals and diagnostic labs.

The move comes after complaints were received by the state government that private hospitals were indulging in heavy charges for treatment of patients suffering from deadly coronavirus.

Rajasthan’s medical & health minister Dr Raghu Sharma said that to fight the corona epidemic effectively, chief minister Ashok Gehlot has decided to put a cap on the treatment of corona patients in private hospitals of Rajasthan.

Private labs in the state will now not be able to charge more than Rs. 2200 per for corona test. Likewise, private hospitals can charge up to Rs. 2000 per day for patients admitted general ward for the treatment of and Rs. 4000 per day for patients in ICU and this cost includes ventilator charges too.

He has also instructed the medical department officials to inspect private hospitals to ensure this order is followed.

“Complaints against labs and private hospitals not adhering to rules can also be filed on the helpline”, he added.

He informed that strict action will be taken against the hospital or lab charging more money from patients under various provisions of law.

The state is also going to become the first state in the country to launch coronavirus awareness campaign in the state. Through 10 days awareness campaign, which will run from June 21 to June 30, the state plans to touch panchayat levels too.
